Disclaimer: we aren't professionals

Thanks for reading our silly little blog! As the disclaimer says, we aren't professionals in either blogging or house stuff, but we try. This is mostly to let our friends and family know what we've destroyed so far in the house. We post irregularly and usually forget to take pictures, so thanks for your patience, and please feel free to comment with your thoughts and suggestions!

*PAUSE* until camera is located

Mini-update: I lost my camera. I can't find it. It's just a little point and shoot but I can't remember for the life of me where I put it! My cell phone is just not sufficient for taking photos in low light, so until I find my camera I won't be doing any picture posts.

Here's a bit of what Chris and I did this weekend, though!

On Friday, I gave eggs to my boss for his birthday. Apparently he didn't know I have chickens, so he was like "What is up with the eggs?" I explained, and hope he enjoyed some delicious omelets or something this weekend.

Our friend arranged a surprise birthday party for his wife - so sweet! He invited lots of people to come paint together at a local place called The Funky Paintbrush. Everyone paints the same basic picture but you can add personal tweaks. Here are two other friends, Ashley and Tina, working on their collaborative, horizontal-instead-of-vertical masterpiece!

Another collaborative effort by JT^3. It was hilarious to watch these guys each take turns and discuss how best to proceed with the painting!

Chris and I with our beautiful masterpieces. I added the meteor because someone said my sky looked stormy, like a meteor shower or something. BOOM, done! I kind of wish I had drawn dinosaurs in the background instead of the little trees.

On Sunday, we worked outside and did laundry. During a laundry break, both cats decided to keep me company. Hula's big fat butt got kind of in the way, though. I couldn't move my left arm. Maui was just tucked next to me in a seam of the cushions.

Finally, today I took my painting to work and it is hanging on what I hope will grow into a lovely gallery wall!  Part of me is like yayyyy comfy cubicle, and the other part says "don't decorate! you're acknowledging that you'll be here forever! work on your thesis so you can graduate!"

Apologies for the lack of posting

When we started this blog, it was mostly to chronicle renovating our house for our parents and family. Well, Chris' parents and family; I'm not sure mine know we have a blog.

Anyway, we would update periodically, and we were doing lots of stuff. Since then, I have progressed further in my PhD studies, proposing a topic last December. I worked my butt off, writing a 90-page document for two months, and not a whole lot got done on the house.

We both started CrossFit last February, and have totally fallen in love. Now in the evenings we are at our local box, CrossFit North Cobb; we've made tons of awesome friends and love hanging out with them! But, that means sometimes our house work suffers.

We did have a really productive January though, and we're trying to ride the momentum into our last major renovation, which will be a gut job of the second bathroom and the laundry room. I do have crappy cell phone pictures of a lot of them, and they're on facebook, but a fat lot of good that does anyone reading this if you're not my personal, real-life friend. I keep the facebook profile on lockdown.

Yesterday evening, my faaaavorite bloggers ever (and the ones I've been reading the longest, since early 2009!) John and Sherry Petersik of Young House Love were in Atlanta to sign their book (which I preordered on Amazon, of course). I made a little PowerPoint booklet of how their tips have inspired Chris and I's house makeover. It's totally cheesy and I wrote little notes on it and I hope they appreciate it! They said they'd read it on their 8-hour drive back to VA today. Also, ~OMG I TALKED IN PERSON TO JOHN AND SHERRY!!!~

Anyway my cell phone pics are crappy, and I realized it while putting them in my little booklet, so I have made the resolution to take real pics with a real camera (digital point and shoot, nothing fancy here) and to update you accordingly.

Here are the posts I will resolve to do over the next month:
  • Built-in faux fireplace and bookcases- almost finished! Working on trim.

  • Final bedroom shots. Includes stenciled wall, closet redo, shiny dresser, and accessorizing in a very small space.
  • A post on changing out the boob lights in our kitchen.
  • New plant furniture and finally finishing a drywall patch job in the kitchen eating area.

  • Replacing the front door and windows in the living room.
  • Installing bamboo blinds (clearance at Home Depot, boom!) and curtains (which haven't actually been installed yet, they're sitting on the unfinished bookcases...)
  • A DIY honeycomb shelving unit made out of cedar fence planks (I didn't take process pictures but I can link to the tutorial) and other entry-wall accessorizing
  • Making the old guest room into a craft/cat room by selling my old IKEA furniture on craigslist, promptly spending that money and more at IKEA for a wardrobe, and installing a 4'x8' pegboard wall of crafty awesomeness! P.S. I now have two cats. Maui turned 1 on Friday, Feb. 1st. On Sunday, Feb. 3rd, he expressed his gratefulness for me adopting him by peeing on my down comforter. Jerk.
  • Plans for the bathroom/laundry room
  • Fencing in the chickens and other backyard happenings
  • Oh by the way we have chickens and they are awesome. I made a brag post for my coop here: http://ana-white.com/2012/07/frame-chicken-coop-modifications
